Lunch Time Enrichment
Spring 2017

Would you like your 4th and 5th grader to have the opportunity to increase their reading, comprehension, critical thinking and writing skills?

Then register them for Junior Great Books!

Junior Great Books has been developing children’s literary skills since 1962. Windermere volunteer leaders have received training to assist your children in a group discussion that will be both active and collaborative. They will learn how to ask questions, listen to others and think critically.

The Specifics:

  • Meet once per week for 6 weeks
  • Meet during lunch
    • 4th graders will meet on Tuesdays during lunch (location TBD,) from March 7 to April 18. 4th graders will not meet March 14th.
    • 5th graders will meet on Fridays during lunch in Room 200, from March 10 to April 28. 5th graders will NOT meet March 17th or April 14th.
  • Students will eat lunch with their JGB group and discuss the story after lunch. The session will occupy the entire
    lunch period from 11:05-12:05
  • Read the story twice in preparation for next weeks session
  • Cost is $30, which includes the book*. Each book contains 9 stories, 6 of which will be covered

The Books:

  • 4th Grade story themes: Trust, Resourcefulness and Communication
  • 5th Grade story themes: Honesty, Self-Respect and Fitting In
  • Leaders will determine which 6 of the 9 stories will be read and you will be notified by e-mail
  • Read the story twice in preparation for next weeks session

* This fee also covers the cost of the Leader Guides that volunteers use to guide the students in discussion.

Registration opens Friday, February 17, 2017 at 9 am and closes Thursday, February 23 at 9 pm **Registration has been extended until Monday February 27 at 9 am!**
