October 2016

“Hawk Walk” is a fun and fit activity for Kindergarteners through Fifth-graders. Students will walk with their classmates during their regularly scheduled PE class during the week of October 24th. Each student will receive a Hawk Walk water bottle for participating.

Hawk Walk will serve as the PTO’s major fall fundraiser,in lieu of “Annual Family Contribution” this year. Our goal is to raise at least $30 per student, or, for those with multiple families students at Windermere, $50/family. We hope that each family will participate in the Hawk Walk to the best of their ability and we would like to thank you in advance for your participation!

Guidelines:

  1. Students may start collecting pledges as soon as they receive the pledge sheets. Reminder: White and Yellow copies of pledge sheets need to be brought to the student’s classroom by Monday, October 24th.
  2. Pledges may be made by anyone. However, only ask friends, family members and close neighbors. Do not go door-to-door or ask anyone you do not know. (Please do not ask for pledges from any of the staff members of Windermere.)
  3. Each sponsor making a pledge should write his/her own name, address or phone number, and pledge per lap or flat rate. Students may collect the flat rate pledges in advance and turn these in with the white and yellow copy of their pledge form.
  4. Each class will walk during one of their regularly scheduled physical education classes. Each participation will be issued a “lap card”, which will be marked each time the student reaches the starting point, thereby keeping track of the number of laps completed. If it rains on the day of the Hawk Walk, alternate arrangements have been made to walk inside the building with the least amount of disruption to classrooms.
  5. Upon completion of the Hawk Walk, students will hand in their lap cards. A volunteer will record each student’s lap total on their pledge sheet and return it to the students. Students may then collect outstanding pledges. Please return checks or money to Windermere PTO by Friday, November 11th.
  6. Students must walk the course themselves. Handicapped students are allowed special considerations for walking laps during the Hawk Walk. No running or jogging will be allowed. Participations are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen if it’s sunny. We want every child to enjoy the day.
